OUR CHURCH

The Stockton Buddhist Temple is a member of the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA) headquarters located in San Francisco, California. BCA is affiliated with Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji Ha, also known as Nishi Hongwanji.

The temple’s membership serves the central valley’s community found in the San Joaquin valley and presently serves outlying areas such as Cortez, Tracy, Modesto and Turlock.

The Stockton Sangha, as our Buddhist community is referred to, include members from the surrounding communities of Tracy, Linden, French Camp, Brentwood, Delta Islands, and Stockton.

Our Teachings

The Pure Land teaching established by Shinran tells us that all are embraced by the power of Amida Buddha’s Primal Vow. Entrusting in this Vow enables all to live in the present with confidence and peace of mind and assures them that they will be born in the Pure Land where they will attain Enlightenment.

Cultural Events

We host many cultural events throughout the year and the public is welcomed to attend.

Our Minister

Rev. Candice Shibata is our resident minister.

Why Visit Us?

As Shin Buddhists, we take the view that our ordinary life is the spiritual journey.

For if we are to live fully, we must live fully in the present moment. That present moment is not compartmentalized for only “spiritual” times. To live fully we are to be present in every present moment.
